StruBIM Steel
StruBIM Steel is a program designed to create and maintain BIM models for structural steel details. This program allows users to create an accurate BIM model that includes the necessary elements (sections, plates, bolts, butts and fasteners) to define the structure. . The program provides store drawings in DSTV format for outputting results.
CYPE StruBIM Steel
StruBIM Steel is a computer program that designs steel structures for manufacturing purposes. This tool helps people design and create detailed steel structures (3D models and 2D drawings) using a variety of tools. The application can export IFC, PDF, DWG, STEP files.
Workflows supported by the program
As StruBIM Steel is an Open BIM tool and is connected to the BIMserver.center platform, it offers various workflow options.
- Modeling steel structures directly in StruBIM Steel
- Import of steel structure designed in CYPE 3D
- Import of steel structure designed in CYPECAD
- Importing steel structure models in IFC format using the IFC uploader
- Importing structures developed in other tools using the StruBIM uploader
- Importing structures from an XML file generated by ETABS®
In addition to the various options mentioned above, StruBIM Steel includes the same tools as CYPE Connect in its connection modeling options. This provides another interesting interaction between the two programs, allowing users to save connections created in CYPE Connect to a local user library and then import them into StruBIM Steel or vice versa.
Work environment
StruBIM Steel’s workspace is similar to other CYPE modeling tools, and features a system of dockable windows that can be customized to adapt the workspace to the needs of the project.
In the upper left corner of the screen there are two separate tabs: “Model” and “Documents”.
The modeling area is located on the right side of the home screen, where all elements of the project are entered, edited and visualized in 3D.
The main toolbar has different functions depending on the “Model” or “Documents” tab. You can create project libraries, enter or edit elements, measure model elements, analyze connections, and number and manage pages.
On the left are the main tools for defining project views, managing the view of read elements, tags and the elements themselves.
Determination of project characteristics
The following project data can be defined in the “Project” group of the main toolbar:
Choice of code used in connection analysis
As an alternative to detailing the connections made by StruBIM Steel, the program also offers users the option to analyze connections using CYPE Connect, which works together with StruBIM Steel, as long as both programs are included in the license. In this case, the selection of design codes for different project materials is done in the “Codes” window.
Codes available in the program
Materials library
StruBIM Steel allows you to save the characteristics of the materials used in the project using the following libraries:
Types of steel for sections and plates
The steel needed to fabricate project sections and sheets can be stored in the program library by entering reference, description, modulus of elasticity, Poisson’s ratio, coefficient of thermal expansion, unit weight, yield strength, and fracture strength. It is also possible to specify the resistance criteria depending on the thickness of the material.
Types of steel for screws
The steel needed to characterize the bolts in the project can be stored in the program library by entering the reference, description, modulus of elasticity, Poisson’s ratio, coefficient of thermal expansion, unit weight, yield strength and fracture strength. It is also possible to specify the materials of nuts and washers.
Types of anchor steel
The steel needed to characterize project anchors can be saved in the program library after entering the reference, description, modulus of elasticity, Poisson’s ratio, coefficient of thermal expansion, unit weight, yield strength and fracture strength. It is also possible to specify the materials of nuts and washers.
Types of concrete
The used concrete types can also be stored in the program library. To do this, you must enter the reference, description, compressive strength, compressive strain in concrete at maximum load, and ultimate compressive strain in concrete.
Elements library
StruBIM Steel allows you to save the characteristics of the materials used in the project using the following libraries:
Section Library
The StruBIM steel section library allows users to enter various types of rolled, reinforced, cold-formed and tubular steel sections. StruBIM Steel allows you not only to enter sections manually, but also to retrieve information from an extensive library of sections with codes and manufacturers from different countries.
If the workflow adopted by the user includes an import process from a BIM model of a CYPECAD or CYPE 3D designed structure, StruBIM Steel will import the sections and automatically add them to the project library if they are compatible with the program.
Difference from
other BIM
Using open standards and a software development methodology that promotes continuous development and scalability, any professional can easily learn to use our tools and combine them according to their preferences.
